Two Article Reposts and my fave PDI writers Part 1

So anyway, here are two of my articles that came out recently. One for PDI entitled “Two Stories of Technology Achievement Charity and Fulfillment“, and the cover story for this month’s issue for Speed Mag titled “A first view of Microsoft Vista

Ok I know the PDI one was renamed to some incomprehensible title, with absolutely no relation to the subject story whatsoever, but what can I do? That’s what they wanna name it, fine. I can only close my eyes and re-read my orig version to enjoy it.

Incidentally, that was the ‘important’ article I was talking about last week. Important in the sense that it involved tech touching people’s lives and improving their appreciation of themselves, which, I suspect to everyone’s surprise, is what tech is supposed to do. A far cry from what they have become, flashy accoutrements to one’s life, to be used like jewelry to impress people, attain faux social status and burden one’s monthly income.

Note to advertisers / PR people: If you want a nice big article for yourselves, give writers material like that. That sort of thing is a breeze to write. I could write ten of those in a day if it was packaged like that. And no, you don’t have to spend a fortune like Samsung did. Just be creative.

The event was hosted by Patricia Evangelista, who is one of my favorite writers at the Inquirer. Cushy job that was. She only appeared like, what 6 times, to introduce someone, and that was it. Why is it, btw, that my favorite writers get the worst comments whenever I mention their name to people? Rina Jimenez David, Patricia, and Nestor Torre are the first ones I read when I open the paper, yet when I say that to people, they act like I’ve no taste, and / or tell me about scandals or gossip about each’s misplaced behaviour that, incidentally, have nothing to do with their writing, and which I couldn’t care less about even if true (which in all honestly, I doubt).

If at all, it only adds weight to my belief that most of us can be quite a sorry lot when faced with people who are doing well in their lives. That we turn defensive and find fault in them so as to somehow make them our ‘equals’. Doesn’t it make us happy whenever a person trips or falls, or in contrast, does household chores, gets scolded by their parents, or otherwise displays some action that makes them more ‘real’? Of course they are ‘real’. Whoever said they weren’t anyway? They just happen to do what they do very well, that’s all.

We should appreciate them for what they do well and no further, I think, given that we have no basis for judging them as people just from their work. What a person writes is hardly a basis for judging the author’s life, let alone gives anyone the right to do so. Whoever said one should keep his mouth shut if he has nothing good to say knew what he was goddam talking about, imo.

At any rate, more fodder for a future blog post. Will get to that later. Now I gotta go to my client, and get back here (home) before lunch to (hopefully) finalize a project.
