would you say yes to a Google OS?

if google told you today that: “hey since you like our services so much, why not check out our operating system as well?” would you do it?

chances are, a lot of people would say yes, and that is why I think Google might just go for it – the unspeakable – the unthinkable – make their own OS.

Here’s some other reasons why I think that’d work, none of which is reason enough by itself, but still:

  • they’re in the position to offer it.
  • they’re not necessarily windows proponents, in other words:
  • they’re linux advocates, and hence:
  • they can give it away for free because they’d make money from attached services anyway. Just the Adwords possibilities on a local machine is reason enough.
  • it’s inline with their goal of databasing the world. In my opinion the closest thing to it is Google’s Desktop, but I’ve installed it, I’ve tried it, I then really tried it, and heck I don’t like it. It slows my PC down, it distracts me so I put it on ‘auto-hide’, after which it distracts me even more when it suddenly appears when I don’t want it off the left side of my screen, and when I do wanna see it it doesn’t wanna come out. Finally, to this day it still hasn’t finished indexing my Gmail. That’s two weeks for you. Sure I’m almost 1.5gb, but two weeks is two weeks. I admit I thought of this idea after I tried out Desktop btw.
  • then there’s a combination of two factors, 1. Linux is fairly developed already and just needs one big push, and 2. isn’t it just about time for another OS?

at any rate, like I’ve always said, I may be wrong. This is an opinion after all, and arguing about it is like arguing whether Chickenjoy is better than KFC – Pointless. I also admit that thinking that Google might do it may also be construed that I want them to.

But if you think about it, don’t you think most people would embrace this either?
