Almon Marina Roast Chicken

For P204.00, Almon Marina will sell you a roast chicken with rice and 2 sidings of either (if I remember right), potato salad, veggies, mashed potatoes and.. err, something else. I went with the the veggies and mashed.

The thigh + drumstick is a good part and is always preferred. Here we get an average serving rubbed with sweet gravy and pilaf rice.

The ends are blackened after roasting, while the rest of the surface is a nice brown colour. I avoid black parts if I can because I was told in the past this is carcinogenic. Its not a whole lot in this case, and is at least a good indication that it’s cooked well through with no dubious bloody parts inside.

Overall I give this a 6 out of 10, with 0% chance of me ordering again. The rice was great and so was the sauce. The chicken serving isn’t very impressive for P200+, the veggies were composed of carrots and some sayote that looked like it had been waiting in a heater the whole day. Same with the mashed potatoes, which was lumpy and tasted like cardboard. I’ve had better chicken meals at KFC.

I think the only thing worth ordering at Almon Marina is the barbecued pork and variants of that, if you can take the blackened bits, and maybe a steak and sandwich or two. Since I hardly order those I’ve always been disappointed whenever we ate there, and only come back every 6 months or so whenever I’d forgotten previous (usually bad) experiences. It’s a pity since it has great ambience, giving off an ‘old cafe’ vibe which is conducive to just sitting there and eating / drinking coffee the whole day.

This is nothing to write home about however. Moving on.
