In Oct, 1973 royalty wannabe Imelda Marcos invited herself to the inauguration of the Sydney Opera House. Wikileaks diplomatic cables reveal she tried to upstage the Queen. She was seen wearing a tiara even if she is not a titled lady & Queen Elizabeth, the head of state wasn’t.

Here is a quote from the Wikipedia article:
3. DEPARTMENT WILL RECALL MRS. MARCOS ATTEMPTED INVITE HERSELF TO NIXON INAUGURATION IN 1968, AND TO DEDICATION OF SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE WHERE SHE MADE EFFORT UPSTAGE THE QUEEN. SUGGEST DEPARTMENT MAY WISH (A) INFORM PHIL EMBASSY OF EXPRESS STORY, (B) REITERATE GUIDANCE REFTEL B, AND (C) URGE PHIL EMBASSY TO IMPRESS ON DFA THAT WE ANTICIPATE AMBASSADOR AND MRS. EDUARDO ROMUALDEZ WILL BE GOP REPRESENTATIVES AT INAUGURATION. DEPARTMENT MAY READ THIS SUGGESTION AS UNWILLINGNESS BELL CAT IN MANILA, BUT WE BELIEVE INITIAL INFORMAL APPROACH ON THIS QUESTION MORE APPROPRIATE IN WASHINGTON.

Quote from the ABS CBN Article:
Kissinger, in a separate memo, quoted extensively and without comment, a “Good Morning America” report by Jack Anderson on the disarray that transpired during Imelda’s visit to the White House.
“There’s one foreign visitor whom the state department hates to see. She happens to be one of the world’s most glamorous women. She’s the first lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos, a beautiful woman whose beguiling smiles charm the scowls off the world’s most cantankerous leaders,” the report said.
It revealed that US State Department protocol officials “grit their teeth” every time Imelda shows up in the United States.
‘More as a pest than a guest’
“She seldom bothers to notify them. She simply arrives unannounced. Then, she starts making difficult demands and poking her nose into delicate matters. She’s come to be regarded more as a pest than a guest,” it added. “For example, upon a White House reception. And she gets her dander up if it doesn’t meet her expectations.”
It said Imelda “loitered around New York City for a number of days with little to do” during her 1975 US visit.
“A confidential report on her visit claims she was waiting for Spain’s dictator Franco to die so she could fly to Madrid for the funeral. She likes the pomp and ceremony of such international occasions,” the Kissinger memo said.
