Yesterday I separated the shiny bits from the donor gas tank. It’s in great shape.

It’s actually pretty easy. You just remove the bolt underneath the black honda emblems then push it backwards to release from the metal hook and voila.

I am very lucky to have these in great shape. The tank is also very nice in still its original red as far as I can tell.

One of the emblems needs replacing though.

I also removed the petcock

But in so doing I tore the little screen.

Although that shouldn’t be too hard to find. It’s best to replace it anyway as it looked crunchy.

The area where the petcock used to be is still nice. It shouldn’t be too hard to get that cleaned up and painted.
I’m not using this tank though. I’m going to sell this along with the frame and whatever’s left. Those two are a match should and be together. The next guy who will restore that will have the option of restoring an original paint bike. I’ll be using the tank that came with the bike instead.

It’s also in good shape.
That’s it for now. Today I’ll be doing more prepping. The engine needs to be taped with duct tape to protect it from the sandblast and the forks need to be separated and also prepped.
