How I Moved Everything to Lefthandedlayup.com

If you entered Pisces-iscariot on your browser, or otherwise clicked a link going to Pisces-iscariot, please don’t adjust your sets. This is now my new blog, which I’ve moved to partly to separate my personal blog from the Exchange.ph domain and partly to practice the eventual migration of the Exchange.ph domain and subsequent websites to a new host.

So I’ve been busy practising a big move to a new server, and this is the first of many migrations I’m about to do in the next few days. Everything looks like it’s working fine now, so I’m pretty happy and hella relieved as well. Below is a shortlist of what I’d had to do to transfer Pisces-Iscariot blogposts, comments and pics lock stock and barrel to this brand spanking new one. This is so that I won’t forget when I have to do it again, with some extra details for whoever else might need the same information. Believe me I’d had to do a lot of groping in the dark (ie. searching in forums, sending tons of email to my host’s excellent support team, testing on my practice server, bugging the chief, etc.) to finally be able to do what I did, so if I’d have appeared extra nervous or cranky these past few days, now you know. At any rate this’ll help anyone who’d happen to be in the same boat I’d be happy. Read on:

Where is Jonas Burgos?!

Sometimes I look around the local Internet as I know it and I have to wonder – are any of the things going on around the country of any consequence to these people? Of course it is silly for me to ask anyone to pay attention to anything they don’t want to pay attention to, but I really have to ask anyway.

All around us, our country is drowning in a cesspool of violence, injustice and apathy. I don’t know Mayor Binay from Adam, but I do know harrassment when I see it, and I find myself hoping that he manages to find a way around this inspite of the obviously formidable odds. The Secretary of Justice is an indignant fool whose agenda – to draw attention to himself and away from his boss, is obvious, irritating and effective. He calls a well – loved and well – meaning foreigner careless for taking a walk in the mountains alone, calls a rape victim ‘dreaming’ even as the prosecution had yet to state their case, and allows the Marine responsible for it to escape in the dead of the night, away from the grasp of the country where he committed the crime and which is supposed to prosecute him. In effect, sending the clear message that foreigners are not welcome in the country, and that U.S. Marines are welcome to do anything they want to Filipina women whilst in the Philippines because we owe their country far too much to jeopardize jailing a guilty man.

Aaaaaaand we’re back

(with apologies to Google Talk for stealing their message when they get back online after a long wait). So anyway, am back after a 3 day stay at horrendous dial – up land. Mind you, 3 days is ok, and I’m sure you’re all thinking I’m Mr. Drama for getting all worked up about it, but I didn’t know it was gonna be gone for only 3 days, no one at PLDT knew as well (I just called them up this morning and their heldesk was again completely clueless), and the last time my connection got conked out, it lasted 3+ weeks, and that was just a few weeks ago. And before that, it was the super – slow fiasco with the Taiwan earthquake which lasted months, so don’t blame me if I say I’ve been there done that.

At any rate, I never did get to use PLDT Vibe. To the non – knowers, there’s a PLDT Vibe prepaid card and the PLDT Vibe dial up service which supposedly lets all PLDT subscribers log in via username: pldt, password: vibe and dial to 10133, and then they’ll just bill you on your next bill (which is probably expensive but it’s handy for quick cases of no dsl like above, right?).

Unfortunately when I dial 10133 (after being taught by their helpdesk 172+1+1, I get a ‘not yet in service‘ recording. So guess what? I told 172+1+1 about it, and they told me to call 171+1+2 which is their ‘technical support’ place, which after I call, instructed me to call 172+1+1 again apparently because I need to first file a report that it’s broken there before I call them so that they can do something about – something or other. Hesus kristo panginoon.

Do.Something.Productive.Now. and other Random Monday Thoughts

I just got back from the palengke. I love the palengke. It reminds me of Linux. Yes Linux. Basically, you get get only what you want, ignore everything you don’t want, and make it work exactly the way you want it. Sa palengke, bibilhin mo lang ang kailangan mo, sans wrapping, packaging and manufacturer marketing, tapos ok na, mabubuhay ka na dun. Sarap pa. At the guaranteed cheapest lowest price you can imagine.

No I don’t make a tech – analogy for everything I do. It’s just in this case it was because I was pursuing the idea in my mind so I can post it at PWIT. You see, I want to post a non – [tag]MAC[/tag] post at PWIT, declaring my love for the cheap, easy to use, always ready – to – go PC. Why? Because they’re all [tag]Mac lover[/tag]s there. From Adel to Art (I think) to Butch Dalisay. Yes I wanted to use his name so I can brag that I am group – blog mates with Palanca Hall of Famer Butch Dalisay. This gives me an, albeit misguided, but nice feeling just the same, that I have made it somewhere in the writing world. To prove we’re close, here’s a link to his blog. O diba? Put your 2nd and 3rd finger on your left hand together. Ganyan kami ka-close, pare.
