  • Overcoming The Technophobes

    When I was a retainer for a law firm I took the opportunity to thoroughly study the technophobes in residence there. Because they were usually the older ones, as is the stereotype, it occurred to me that the reason they were against the learning and even the implementation of technology was, among many reasons, it made them feel antiquated.

    I realized after wrestling with the idea that the reason they weren’t open to it was that they attributed new technology with the new associates, and hence they did not like how this lack of understanding of the new seemingly gave the newer kids the upper hand. And we’re not talking high tech here. Just PCs and the Internet. Little did they know of course that many of these newer kids were just as clueless as they were, but as far as they were concerned of course they were the dinosaurs.   • Leslie Update: Parts Bought From Vietnam Finally Arrived

    Quick update on what’s going on with the bike. I found a Vietnamese store to buy parts from here. I corresponded with the guy there for almost three weeks trying to figure out what I wanted until I finally bought the ff.:

    1. tail light – 11.50
    2. winkers front and rear -16.00
    3. chain guard -15.50
    4. ignition -10.50

    Prices are in pound sterling, so with shipping that worked out to about P4,400+. I didn’t buy too many because I was nervous with how much it would end up with, tax and all, when it got here. Then a few days ago, the parcel finally arrived.

  • Things Are Humming Along

    Ok this might be the Chocolate Sundae I just had from Jollibee talking, but I just wanted to say how happy I am that things are humming along. I’ll be honest. Right now I have a zillion things I have to do, a deadline with a client has waved past waaaaay long ago, a project I had high hopes for desperately needs more attention and I don’t have a new prospect to look forward to for the first time in a long time.

    Despite all this however, I have to say things could be a lot worse. Last night my sis in law came back home with her 2 month old baby and my whole in law family was just bursting with happiness and excitement. It’s the kind of environment I had always hoped to grow my own family around and last night I felt like patting myself on the back. Whatever happens from now on I have a group of people I can rely on. You just don’t know how important that is until you do not have it. I didn’t and now I do. This is very important.

  • So Long Ayrton

    Well here’s an update on finding a name for the oncoming boy. As previously mentioned, ‘Ayrton’ was strong in the running but I had misgivings due to how unique it is. I imagine he’d always be explaining it his whole life, with people wondering where it came from or how it is pronounced. And so we nixed it.

    Not that I do not like Ayrton Senna any less. In fact I watched the docu about him a second time and he is even more impressive after taking in the nuances of his personality and how well spoken he was in interviews. Clearly he was a brilliant passionate competitor just as I felt way back when, but it takes an educated man to express himself properly otherwise you would always be misinterpreted as brash or self centered.

  • On Carlos

    My first experience with Carlos Celdran was back in May 2008, when I wrote how I wanted to join one of his tours. Lo and behold he commented and told me I get on for free if I just show up. Of course I went and thoroughly enjoyed an Imelda tour around CCP, information on which I’d never have known if it weren’t for him. I thought he was pretty fair to Imelda when he said how in spite of her grandiose loonyness we wouldn’t have the CCP, and we have her to *gasp* thank. I think about that to this day every time I’m there (such as right now writing this at Starbucks Harbor Square).

    I met him again years later at a telco event and we talked a bit, but I doubt he’d remember. There was no doubt though he had alreaady made a fantastic impression on me. Here was the man to which we all truly owe a kind of continuing debt of gratitude. There is no doubt he has done far more for the city and the country than 95% of anyone in power give or take a few. He’s one of those guys who’ll be in the History books for our kids and their kids to study for generations to come. Way after we’re all gone they’ll be putting up a statue of him wearing his weird hat and holding a worn out clear book, for pigeons to sit on and tourists and history buffs to mull over. He’s the real deal. A man out to change the world.

    When I think about his lost case against the CBCP, entirely different feelings emerge.

  • Les Miserables Movie Review

    In a word, I found it tedious.

    I didn’t much care for the idea of singing out every line. I am only lightly knowledgeable about Les Miserable songs, and I didn’t like having to figure out when they are singing or starting to sing one of them or are just declaring something. I don’t know what that adds to the experience.
