Those That Congratulate You Are Your True Friends

Went for a fantastic walk today from the house to Paseo, the shopping center. Only went halfway back though because I had to shop at Rustan’s for rice. I bought into the brown rice healthy shtick only to be told be Jill that it tastes like cardboard, so I’m feeling like a shmuck right now. Glad I only bought 5 kilos.

Work wise I’m firing on all cylinders to get some business going with some big clients. I had some bad luck with a few ones but there’s nothing I could’ve done about that, so I’ve pretty much closed the door and moved on in my head. Feel much better now frankly.

How To Put Veggies In Me

The pauso pinakbet really turned out ok. Prob is I’d had to make enough to accommodate all the veggies I bought, and soon I got tired of it so I have to admit some of it went to the trash can. What a waste, but at least I learned an important lesson – portions – or in other words, cooking just enough and not just to feed me but factoring in variety and how bored I’d get with a dish as well.

Anyway, the problem persisted. I ate mostly pork, chicken and fish, I definitely needed to put some greenery in my diet. So I think I found it.

Pauso Pinakbet

I love pinakbet. Problem is the ingredients are bad for me, ie. Bagoong, Baguio Beans (or any beans), Shrimp and Okra. Just the fact Bagoong is bad for me completely nixes this dish out obviously, as Pinakbet in English is translated ‘Meat Vegetable Stew in Shrimp Paste’.

Current diet however, suggests I need to eat more veggies. And I really really want some. So..

Wish Books Were Cheaper Post

I spent a full hour or so browsing around Fully Booked this afternoon. I would’ve bought myself a wall calendar except that the ones they sell there are goddam expensive (-+2k?!?). I mean, they’re really nice and all but I’d be happy with those free ones Chinese – owned hardware stores give out, with big red numbers.

Anyway, I wanna buy these two books:

AMERICAN CAESAR: DOUGLAS MACARTHUR, 1880-1964

Adobo, Commuting, and Expensive Gym Rates

I played my first game yesterday, and I ached a little bit that night but overall felt great. It was just a simple 2 on 2 with some village kids but I huffed and puffed and did fairly well, I think each team won a game.

Today I had to take a meeting with someone at The Fort. Going there was a 20 minute tricycle ride, a 40 minute shuttle ride and another 15 minute cab ride. I left at 1040am and was there around lunch. That’s pretty good and comparable to when I lived in Cainta, especially considering the approx. 60+ kilometer distance. The difference of course was virtually zero traffic and we were moving all the time. Under the same conditions the travel time to Cainta would be less than half, but since the idiots who run that place can’t get their heads together long enough to fix the traffic that’s never the case.

Anyway, here’s a pic of some adobo.

2010 Day 1: Not Much To Report

I would’ve uploaded a few pics if I could find the USB cable. Anyway that reminds me that Jill got a free USB card reader when she bought Tilde, her new S90, so I better ask for that instead.

I finally got to watch My Sassy Girl and it was terrific, or at least the ending was. Quite likely some of the scenes gist’ were lost in translation so they came out long and pointless, but it came all together in the end. The Wikipedia page says ‘it became a mega blockbluster hit in the entire region from Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, as well as South East Asia, to the point where it was drawing comparisons to Titanic‘. That’s very impressive and I finally got to see why. It might not necessarily have the best of any given particular detail, but at the end it leaves you happy and that’s more than enough for me.

Peekchurs and the Monster

So here’s basically where I live. I couldn’t place pegs on the notoriously difficult to use Google Maps, but its all good. DLSU Canlubang is this big area a 10min walk away, where I walk / run (mostly walk) in the mornings like today. Like I said in my last post the very long driveway + the roundabout at the end and back is exactly 2km., so that, plus a stopwatch (I use my phone) is a good way to measure progress.

And here’s a few pics of ‘The Monster’, which is what I’ve decided to call the long driveway – the better to aspire to beat it I suppose.
