I blogged about Vistatorrent.com last week. You can read their official statement here, where they post the letter from a MS representative “Internet Investigator”.

Chris and Jack thought that they were doing a good thing, especially after a spokesVole (referring to a post on the MS website) said, “Demand for Beta 2 has been huge – which was expected. But we are hitting ceilings on bandwidth. Right now we are serving out product keys 10x faster than we can serve the downloads. Already this is the biggest software download event in history. We are pumping out bits as fast as we can. If we pushed out bits any faster there would be a measureable impact for the Internet”.
Unfortunately, a short while later, Chris and Jack received an email from an “Internet Investigator”, working on behalf of the Vole, who demanded an immediate takedown of the tracker.
Chris and Jack write, “We were only trying to help Microsoft by doing this, assuming the costs and responsibilities associated with serving and seeding larger files. We did not alter, crack, hack, or patch any of Microsoft�s files”.
Expect two things: a. Even more torrents of Vista will be available on the net via the traditional (read: pirated) means (effectively achieving the opposite), and b., DVD copies of future beta software from MS will now consider such action in their fine print, inclusive of course, of penalties.

i wonder if we can ask from the local MS office for beta DVDs na lang. hmm.
