two new ygroups!

I’m announcing two new yahoogroups: Ph-Photoshop amd Ph-CSS. Basically decided to make them since I deal with these two things a lot on a daily basis, aside from the fact I like making howtos on photoshop among others and I’m sure others out there wanna share their stuff.

Photoshop as I mentioned on a previous post is a BIG deal for me, I love it and many others regard it more than just a tool. I think it has something to do with the fact that the possibilities really are truly endless using it. In fact Photoshop is the only reason why I’m still using Windows! There are so many ways to get to do a particular task, some are shortcuts and some are ‘longcut’ but still produce the same results. I once saw a guy work on a project and he used tools and techniques I never even thought about using or at least using the way he did, even though we were using the same version. I assumed he learned it via some formal training but it turns out he learned via experimentation and watching other people, exactly the way I did.

No doubt about it, if you can dream it in your head, you can do it on photoshop, and if you think about it, that’s what using computers are all about – to help us do things.

Ph-CSS on the other hand, is primarily because I want to eventually run a contest where people submit templates for popular apps, as opposed to just making any old website or application. I’ve seen whole forums and database-fed apps that accdg. to their designers don’t use any html at all and are completely CSS. The idea just makes your jaw drop. However, those are rare occasions, and since I want to run a contest, I’ll make it based on popular applications, maybe like good old WordPress or blogs in general, maybe even those hosted on Blogger. PHPBB is also a candidate, although it uses a lot more html in making themes. Hell, now that I found out there are so many PHPMyAdmin themes, that might even be a good candidate for a contest too, right?! Uhh.. maybe not actually. I’m still confounded why anyone would bother, considering only sysads who’re in a hurry to do stuff use it and probably couldn’t care less.

At any rate, I’ll get to that, but I’ll start with WordPress first. Seems logical. Oh and I was also impressed with the results of Alex King’s contest too, in case anyone references a precedent. Check the results of the contest, even the non-winners are terrific.

Anyway, join up here and here!
