webdesigning & developing

After the writing bug of the past two weeks, I’ve been bitten by the design bug this past weekend, the m|ph blog’s latest header being my latest victim. I change the header to reflect the latest cover every month, and this one took approximately 3~5 hours spread over three days to do (not counting the time actually dreaming up the design), partly because I repair other things along the way, such as the Google Search box which was improved by Google these past few months and therefore deserved an update.

But the worst of it all was delays caused by my Homesite installation freezing and crashing on me right in the middle of writing up the 14 different javascript onmouseover thingie scripts I was doing to effect the white – on – red mouseover effect I wanted. That was a complete bummer and the quick solution really was to get to going on it over again instead of sitting around feeling pissed which I seriously was. Imagine slowly getting the thing together when BAM! the thing just dies on me with nothing but some error message with nothing to click but an “Ok”. I should have taken a printscreen of that, really I should have, and sent it over to Macromedia with a message saying “It Was Not Ok, do you hear me?!? NOT OK!!!

Another strange thing that weirds me out is Photoshop’s strange behaviour of not following guidelines when you’re trying to select certain parts of an image via the Marquee tool. It’s a total hassle when you’re working with an image where you have to have exact pixel sizes to make the whole thing fit. Apparently the trick is you select via Marquee first, then put guides second. I can imagine the Pshop experts guffawing on reading that, wondering how I haven’t figured that out all this time, but it’s a revelation for me, okay?! :)

click to get a better lookSecond thing I’m gearing up to finish is my gf’s blog, template here:

Design of which I admit was borrowed inspired from U.S. Cosmopolitan magazine’s site, but using Yahoo’s Avatar service to get the cute image. Wonder how to get an image that big from yahoo avatar? Well ask me nicely and maybe I’ll tell you :). But seriously, it’s not that difficult, in fact it’s pretty cool and they should promote it. I’m placing a link onto Yahoo’s avatar page just in case Yahoo’s panties get all bunched up about it, better to be safe. Gawd the things I do to make up for not having a digicam. Dang.

At any rate I think the design bug’ll stay for awhile. I’m feeling rather motivated / upbeat / inspired lately, (inspite of having no cash after paying all the bills and stuff). Why you ask? Well, why not? DLSU’s got twice to beat advantage in the UAAP, my game’s coming back after working out a bit, Yahoo’s Launchcast is playing Flock Of Seagulls Space Age Love Song, I got a few checks to look out for these coming weeks after my little writing binge awhile back, and well, hey, I’ve got you babe ;). What’s to need after that?
