- I’m gonna have to change my blog layout pretty soon. Things are getting too crowded. Serves me right for pasting on the first template I saw, which happened to be Connections, quite possibly the most popular (read: over-used) blog template in the whole of wordpress-dom, after the default one of course.
In the next week or so I hope to put up a totally new one, I’m looking for a mostly white, three column design, hopefully with not too many alterations so as to be easy to put my fave plugins, especially the Top Ten one, which obviously doesn’t work too well in this one. Who knows I might venture into making it from scratch.
- I submitted the iPod Nano review, and it should come out tomorrow, the 16th. It of course performed as promised which is easy enough since I didn’t have that much expectations from it anyway. My main bitch is the now-legendary ease with which it gets scratched. God knows I tried everything to keep from scratching it, even keeping the plastic covering on. But the mirror-like silver back wasn’t spared, and last night saw me rubbing hard with a soft cotton cloth trying to erase the tiny scratch at the upper part that appeared out of nowhere. Although litigation against Apple regarding this was trivialized by the press and Apple alike, it’s still rather alarming that a gadget designed to inhabit tight bags and pockets would so easily be scratched. I only used it for a total three days!
At any rate, I rather liked it. It’s so tiny you’d actually forget you had it, which is what gadgets should do really, just disappear until you stat to need it. At approximately P12,000.00, it’s not so bad a deal really, except I hope they’d do something about how easily it scratches. - I finally went ahead and put out an ad for Pc.exchange.ph on Buy and Sell, computers section. It cost me a whole P648.00 for a tiny 1col x 3cm. area, but I believe it’d be worth it. It should be out by Friday, and I’ll be putting it out every week or so for a few months.
Frustratingly enough, it took them a whole hour to lay out a simple 3 line text-only ad, and I have to admit my patience was fairly tested when the designer kept insisting on skewing and stretching the text to “fill up the space para sulit”. I’m everything for making the most out of my investment, but jeez how hard is it to type, as in literally just type the URL, “free classifieds” and another line of text.
Of course, they had to be using CorelDraw to make such a super simple tiny ad you can do in 3 minutes using MS Paint. Talk about overkill, it’s like using a Ferrari to fetch kids from school. At some point I think I almost pleaded with the hapless girl who kept resending me the layout, telling her to please, please just ask them to type it using 10pt arial, don’t skew, don’t stretch, don’t nothing. Just type it.
I know I may have scared a sales person or two, but I dreaded the thought of having to buy a copy on Friday and feel annoyed, knowing it’s not the way I really want it, so I insisted until they finally got it right. I sincerely hope it works, and I know it will as long as I do it on a regular basis. - The rest of yesterday was, well, pretty excellent actually. Jill and I capped it off stuffing ourselves silly at Italianni’s, which is always a treat as far as I’m concerned, then just hanging out. I know this is OT to the theme of this blog, but seriously, I’ve not been as happy as I am for a long time. I cannot imagine how great things have turned out, a stark difference from the way things were a mere four months ago, which were probably the worst days of my life.
But who would have guessed that things have changed for me. To you, Thank you for making my birthday the best I’ve had in years. I love you, and I love knowing things can only get better.
