Tipping Tracters is Fern!! (A review of Cars)

Obviously, animated films are all the rage these days. I read somewhere on the ‘net (too lazy to find it right now) that a majority of the money makers in previous years have been animated films, and so it’s not a surprise we’ve one or two every month for the year, along with Marvel or DC superhero movies and other surefire formulas.

So what would a Hollywood Investor in movies do? Why, look for a Hollywood company that can spit one out as quickly and as efficiently as possible, of course. And who better to do that than Pixar, the current animated film spit-outer of choice, with many a hit (and occasional miss), notched on it’s much talented crew’s belt.

So, if we think like a financial advisor instead of a ‘artiste‘, and consider Cars as a financial investment, would we have a winner? Definitely, much definitely so.

Will Failure To Launch get you some action?

As Jill and I were waiting for the moviehouse to empty, we happened onto a wonderful scene. Guys, as we all know, wait outside restrooms for their girlfriends to come out since, even if they both go at the same time, girls take longer. That’s the way it is the world over, and we’re prepared to live a whole lifetime of that. And so as we sat there, we saw a young woman come out, look quickly around the area, and smile as she found her young man standing in said fashion outside. They smiled to each other, and started to walk away. A flower in her hands, the respectable distance, and shy smiles belying the truth – that was a date, and probably early on in the game as well.

All of which, brought me to thinking about the main reason why there are date movies to begin with. Will a movie, say Failure to Launch, get you anywhere with your date?

Review of Poseidon (aka They Killed Fergie! )

To date, director Wolfgang Petersen has sunk and shot at boats in Das Boot, and turned turtle a smaller boat in The Perfect Storm.

Not content with this, he turns another one on top of its head again in Poseidon. I figure that, as long as there are such things as “rogue waves” (without reference to an X-men character), we’re probably gonna see him flip an oil rig, or how about a whole island next? Wouldn’t that be a great idea for Lost fans?

Gadget Buying Tips (renamed ‘Lowdown on Gadgets’) article is now out

Well it was supposed to be an article about gadget buying, but was edited to come out as “The lowdown on gadgets”, a kind of opinion / commentary about gadgets. Which is good, I suppose, considering it wasn’t edited as much. Who can possibly predict what editors think really? IMHO, we might as well be on completely different planets both in writing style and in what we’re trying to say.

There’s an error in a paragraph where I say “Two things to remember about buying laptops”, the first (size and weight are king) is mentioned, but the second was completely edited out.

At any rate, like I said, it’s all good. Some people might disagree with this one, but I’m fairly sure I’m being forthcoming and honest when I say, for example, that people should, even if they had the money, buy what’s best for them as opposed to the top of the line models.

Movie Exchange Makeover!

Announcing some new stuff:

  1. new template! I’ve decided to use Frenchman Neuro’s three column template rather quaintly called “Identification band – parallel Boyish style” for Movie Ex. It features some 220px wide columns and a nice larger content area which can fit Youtube Videos. This means we can finally post Movie Trailers! This template also happens to have “Most Active Posts” and “Latest Comments” built in, as well as a neat Accessibility feature which can auto-increase the font size for those having difficulty reading.

Basketball Exchange’s Got Game! Gearing Up For UAAP.

Basketball Exchange.ph is almost three months old now, and goodness how time flies when you’re having fun.

And having fun we are! I’ve found two great writers Chip Lopez and Phillip Kimpo Jr., who by a stroke of sheer luck, answered the call for writers and have appeared as passionate (which is common), and as dutiful (which without a doubt is very uncommon) in sharing of their opinion, news and commentary of all things basketball.

On the site’s more technical innovations, I’ve added polls from Lester Chan and the terrific Feedreader from Chait.net, which is a terrific way to provide fresh content without getting my lazy ass of my seat. If you check the blog, you’ll see feeds from nba.com and espn.com/nba, and it’s hard to imagine how it’d be so hard to keep the site from getting boring without them, which I suppose, is the highest compliment I can give it. I highly recommend it for any site that wants to show updates from news services or other blogs.

My Articles Page is now up!

Finally finally finally.

I’ve finally gotten around to making my articles page here.

I’d always demurred from said activity as I had thought it rather vain, but I’ve decided it’s best to upload them as they greatly help me figure out when (and sometimes, for whom) I wrote an article for at any given time, without having to dig deep into the deep inner workings of my d:\ partition where everything is stored, and where many a search had failed to result positively from sheer clutter.

At least this way, my blog serves as a backup of these records. Also, and let’s be honest here, it’ll help me find writing work, and I’m very much in the market.
