Project Leslie Update #3 – Honda EX3 Restoration

Ok so it’s been a looong time since I’ve made an update about my Honda EX3 Restoration Project. My previous updates were Nov. 26, 2010 (the first one) and a year after that Nov. 5, 2011. It spent most of 2012 at the garage of our condo. Since 2011, it’s looked like this:

On Carlos

My first experience with Carlos Celdran was back in May 2008, when I wrote how I wanted to join one of his tours. Lo and behold he commented and told me I get on for free if I just show up. Of course I went and thoroughly enjoyed an Imelda tour around CCP, information on which I’d never have known if it weren’t for him. I thought he was pretty fair to Imelda when he said how in spite of her grandiose loonyness we wouldn’t have the CCP, and we have her to *gasp* thank. I think about that to this day every time I’m there (such as right now writing this at Starbucks Harbor Square).

I met him again years later at a telco event and we talked a bit, but I doubt he’d remember. There was no doubt though he had alreaady made a fantastic impression on me. Here was the man to which we all truly owe a kind of continuing debt of gratitude. There is no doubt he has done far more for the city and the country than 95% of anyone in power give or take a few. He’s one of those guys who’ll be in the History books for our kids and their kids to study for generations to come. Way after we’re all gone they’ll be putting up a statue of him wearing his weird hat and holding a worn out clear book, for pigeons to sit on and tourists and history buffs to mull over. He’s the real deal. A man out to change the world.

When I think about his lost case against the CBCP, entirely different feelings emerge.

Les Miserables Movie Review

In a word, I found it tedious.

lesmis

I didn’t much care for the idea of singing out every line. I am only lightly knowledgeable about Les Miserable songs, and I didn’t like having to figure out when they are singing or starting to sing one of them or are just declaring something. I don’t know what that adds to the experience.

Boost Issues on KE

Here’s my issue.

  • I have a VPS with Hostgator Level 3; 1.13ghz, 768mb., 30gb disk.
  • I’m running just one site on it, kikay.exchange.ph, Drupal 6.26.
  • It has been crashing the past 2 weeks. Traffic usually starts picking up around this time of year. Support said I was running out of memory and shows I have up to 4 php processes running at the same time.

Please tell me what you think of my Boost settings here, broken down into 5 pages:

Skyfall – 8 out of 10

This is Javier Bardem’s movie – He was chillingly effective in No Country For Old Men, and is just crazy effective again here. He’s mastered the art of trying to stifle the maniacal laugh, the single most oft messed up villain trait. He is by far the gold standard of movie bad asses and yes that includes Darth Vader, the Predator, Dr. Lechter et al.

This in spite of the fact that a singular flaw in trying to make Bond movies more believable is that the concept of the ‘super villain’ of old, ie. Blofeld, Dr. No, etc., works against him or any future Bond villain from coming up with a respectable performance. These older, spectacular villains parodied wonderfully by Mike Myers as Dr. Evil, work because they’re so out of this world, amazingly, ridiculously powerful.
