I’m screwed

  • My PC is rebooting all by itself. I used a super duper cleaner on it in a majorly fashion yesterday, and although the motherboard looks sparkling new now, it’s still rebooting, so I’m in for it. Plan A is to replace the power supply, which is my best guess culprit, and buy a new [tag]automatic voltage regulator[/tag] / [tag]uninterruptible power supply[/tag]. If that doesn’t work, then it’s time to look at new motherboards and RAM. No my finances aren’t able to handle this right now. When is it ever.
  • Please take a look at the new photos I put up at Elordeboxing.com. You look at those things and you think how precious they are. Thing is, there are tons more where that came from, but many are untitled and un-signed. I’ll put up a page soon saying that if there are any folks who want to contribute details to the untitled pics, to let me know.

Aug – Sep are the most beautiful times of the year. Barops. How Terrorists and the government can help one another, and other troubling thoughts.

I just turned off the TV after watching people like former National Security Adviser Roilo Golez, the head of the PNP group in charge of Aviation safety, and some Airport chief person lambast a recent event where a security expert boarded a Davao plane and easily put together a bomb.

According to them, the reported “security breach” could adversely affect the country’s economy and tourism industry, and someone said “Tourist arrivals might go down and that could adversely affect our economy”. Golez said that the expert should have confirmed with the Authorities first, before conducting the test, presumably so they would be more prepared. The PNP guy said “Pinahiya kami nang walang laban (We were embarrassed without being given a chance to give our side),” according to here.

You know what? I agree! While we’re at it, the best thing to do imo, is ask all the terrorists, to please register themselves with the Philippine Government, and kindly inform us whenever they plan to undertake civil unrest, kidnappings, suicide bomb attacks, beheadings, crashing planes into buildings, and all sorts of activity that may be described as ‘terrorist’ or ‘terrorist-like’.

Bulletpoints du Jour

  • I’ve got two appointments today, a presscon in the afternoon, a meeting before that, the press launch of a new Nokia phone in the evening, two articles to write start and one to re-edit (yes ‘re-edit’ since i’ve already edited it and now i’ve to do it again). Yet here I am blogging away using time I could use for better purposes. Haay.
  • I’ve a new blogging project I’m seriously giving thought, and I’ve no doubt it’d be interesting, but unfortunately I’m spreading myself too thin. Movie Exchange isn’t moving (hadn’t had time to watch) and I’m starting to concentrate on Ballex, given the UAAP and the Fiba World Championships are coming round.

Of DSL, PLDT bills, A Job, Overwhelmed with Writing Assignments & 2 Other Random Thoughts

  1. Today our phone bill exploded in my face and the phone got cut (but not DSL. Hooray for PLDT’s internal communications!). Apparently, the bill was a whopping 12k+ since last our last recorded payment April 4, a fact my sister wants to dispute since she pays the bill herself while I fork over my agreed monthly share of 2.5k a month.

I was woozy from having to shell out such a large amount off of my wallet which believe me, is a deeply dramatic moment. Things may look normal to the casual observer, but to me everything was going in slow motion while the background music in Apocalypse Now blares loudly in my head, at the part where helicopters napalm a village as a shirtless Robert Duvall says how he loves the smell in the morning.

American Dreamz

Low on budget but high on star quality, low on eye candy but high on story, low on effects but great on entertainment value.

This is what I think of American Dreamz, and when you’ve watched it, you’ll hopefully agree that it’s the type that’s best appreciated the way it is.

It’s been awhile since we’ve gotten a good satire, and Dreamz delivers like a Fedex truck. It makes fun of everything and everyone – politics, popular talent shows, people behind those talent shows, terrorists, celebrities, basically everyone who’s ever though a little too highly of themselves. This movie just brings it on.

Plot

The plot is simple. American Dreamz is a wildly popular talent show hosted by Martin Tweed (Hugh Grant), (do I need to indicate what show it criticizes?), and the movie follows the stories of its latest discoveries Sally Kendoo (Mandy Moore) and Omar Obeidi (Sam Golzari).

(cough)losers(/cough)

From here:

An iPod and two mobile phones are the latest must-have accessories for status-conscious British office workers,… according to a survey released on Wednesday.

(The people who surveyed) branded the people in the survey as GOSSIPS (Gadget Obsessed Status Symbol Infatuated Professionals), a contemporary version of yuppies–the acquisitive young urban professionals of the 1980s.

Ok.

Number 1. When I was in my late 20s (and 30 lbs. lighter), I was corporate, dressed it, went out a lot, and earned well into ‘yuppie’ territory. However, I’d hate anyone calling me one. Why in heavens name would anyone want to be called that? Everyone knows the moment someone niches you, you’re obsolete.
