Why I Need To Workout

For no particular reason other than I want to blog about something but can’t think of any other something, forthwith are reasons why I need to work out often:

Sleep Apnea – I know I self – diagnosed this, but I’ve all the symptoms, including fatigue from lack of sleep, waking up at 3am to take a leak, deep set eye bags again from lack of sleep, waking up in a sweat every so often at night (because my lungs were struggling to breathe), and finally the most damning of all, dreams of drowning. The particular recurring dream is fairly vivid. I am on a white sandy beach with some rocky breakwater hills in the distance, which I investigate. While doing so, I enter small caves and whatnot, and before I know it the tide is coming in strong, so strong that I cannot go back to the sandy beach. I struggle to climb higher, but the strong waves start lapping at my feet and upward. At this point I assume I wake up.

PLUG Mailing List is apparently down, posting message here instead.

The mailing list went all quiet last week and I thought it was a lull, but apparently it really is down, as a message I posted was not read by Migs when I asked him about it. Am waiting for it to go up again, but until then, the best I can do is publish it here on my blog so itll come out the PLUG aggregator. Here it is:

Dear People of PLUG:
A week ago I received a proposal from a company called Firsteventsasia (Firsteventsasia.com).

They do events, and are holding one of those generic IT ones called ‘Philippine Information Technology Expo and Business Solutions Summit’ on Sep 30 – Oct 2 at Philippine Trade and Training Center, Roxas Blvd.

Anyway they want an ex-deal. They are giving us a venue for an EB / gathering in exchange for plugging their event on our website.

Here’s the text from their proposal:

Old Movie Week (or Month)

Old Movie Week (or Month)

As a testament to how boring exciting a couple we are, Jill and I are about to embark on an Old Movie Tour in the coming weeks. Many of which are from my recollection of movies I watched but never really understood so much as a kid, but nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed, and had somewhat shaped my opinion and perception on popular culture, the arts, artists, and what movies and theater were all about. Forgive me if I sound serious but movies a serious topic, for me, be.

A sampling:

Cabaret

Cabaret is one of the most frequently copied, spectacular movies I’ve ever seen. I was surprised when everyone was raving about Chicago, when I realized that they had probably never seen Cabaret. To be plainly clear about it, Chicago is a sad, pathetic attempt. When I think of great singing, dancing performers, there is nothing quite like Liza Minelli. Check out Michael York here, before he became just another funny character in those Austin Powers movies. The only copy that can possibly come close is Flashdance and maybe some scenes from Fame, but that’s about it.

New Mobo. A Picture Story.

And not a moment too soon. Work was piling up and me without a good working computer is like.. Moses without the tablets. Ok I know that doesn’t make sense. Goes to show what happens when I don’t have a PC with me for a long time. Anyway let’s bring on the pics:

Above is my sad, dead PC, about to be rejuvenated. I can work on it from where it is so I didn’t pull it down.

Vistado

So it looks like Microsoft is going to support XP for 6 more years, until 2014. So if you’ve bought a Vista equipped PC recently, you gotta ask : “So pano na ngayon ang binayad ko sa Vista?!

Mind you, this isn’t a pro – Linux or pro – anything rant. I don’t own a Vista PC to begin with, and like I said in a previous post, I don’t find anything wrong with it either. I’m using Vista Home right now on Jill’s PC, and I’m doing just fine. Some isues here and there, but mostly, it is, albeit superficially (primarily because most of it’s ‘improvements’ are cosmetic) can be considered a step up above XP.

Notes on Recent Comments

Am having fun with applying the Recent Comments plugin with Gravatars on my sites. I started with simple code, showing this:

using this code:

Joe

For some odd reason I had an inescapable urge to go to the gym today, and so I did, resulting in an adventure of forging my 20+ year old car through a waist deep flood (as to how I could not have foreseen that coming I.Do.Not.Know).

First things first. Joe, my ancient car, is quite a capable performer primarily because I care for it quite regularly. That’s not to say I spend a fortune on it, which I can’t even if I wanted to, it’s just that I’ve always been a gearhead, and having an old car is akin to having a toy to play with everday. Many times I had contemplated on selling it, but always I hesitated because a. What would I replace it with? Regardless of how old it is?, and b., aforementioned ‘toy’ reason.

Today, Joe made me proud. The area near the gigantic golf ball where you turn left from Ortigas Extension is notorious for flooding, and for whatever reason, I completely forgot. And so when I was following a larger vehicle on my way towards it, I realized that the water was deeper than I thought and getting deeper still. Pretty quickly I arrived at a no turning back point, and water was pouring into the car from underneath the door area and from wherever it could come in (told you it was old). Little kids were starting to cheer me on, I pumped up the gas, modulated the clutch, revved it high and mentally crossed myself. It was getting deep, deep and deeper still, and Goddam it the Corolla in front of me was slowing down.
