Of Lousy Domain Registrars and Good Workouts

The million fans of this blog (less 999,997) may have wondered where it went when this domain lapsed a few days ago. Credit (or debit?) my brilliant domain registrar for this oversight, as he failed to contact me beforehand – whereas SOP for registrars would be to contact you 3 months before.

Not only that, he doesn’t even apologize, merely replying after I texted him about it that it’s been relisted and it’ll be back in a few days. Yesterday he then texted to remind me of payment, after which I said ‘sure, just put me in your calendar (so it wont happen again) ok?’, to which I got no reply. EXCELLENT service right there, don’t you think? Especially considering I sent a fair share of business his way when I was still in the web design business. I’m just glad this is just a personal blog and not a critical service like the Exchanges. If I were still hosted at his service (he was my first host), I probably would’ve made a personal appearance to wherever he is in Laguna.

I Accidentally Deleted BallEx Today

But got it up from a day old sql backup. I posted this morning but I managed to retrieve that as well by being subscribed to my own RSS feed, so it was ‘backed up’ more or less.

Can I just say, WHEEEEWWWWWWW!

What I was working on needed a new db installed and I foolishly created one that was too similarly named to ballex’s DB. I made a few mistakes installing it so I decided to scratch it and start over by deleting the DB and – guess what – I deleted ballex’s instead. I definitely heard an audible gasp for air when I realized what I did.

Got Super Sick But Now I’m Ok Again

I decided to wash my bedsheets a few days ago, substituting an old ratty one for the night. BIG mistake. My allergies flared up which quickly worsened into whatever horrible sinus related ailment and before I knew it, everything ached, I couldn’t even walk and essentially I became a vegetable.

And due to the fact I hadn’t gotten sick for the longest time I didn’t recognize it for what it was, and tried to work against it. Result? The 2nd day I was even worse off, and was even more useless, with even more pain everywhere.

When I Grow / Grew Up, I Want / Always Wanted To Be Iron Man

I am about to give Iron Man the highest possible rating I possibly can. And here it is: Iron Man brings me back to when I was 9.

For isn’t that what every little kid wanted to be? Tinkering with toys in a well lit, well equipped workroom, dreaming fantastic dreams, building fantastic things?

Getting My Programming Ducks In A Row

I know my previous post has probably revealed more about me than I’m usually comfortable writing about, but I took the time to let it sink in and have decided its gonna stay as is. I’ve always thought the way to grow was to take yourself out of your comfort zone, and by golly mission accomplished I think.

At any rate, I was trying to concentrate on a PBA game (Red Bull v Coca Cola, score is 51-56 respectively, 5 mins. left in the 3rd), when I decided to pick up my old trusty laptop and blog. I’ve been a fairly productive blogger today, making scheduled posts for ballex and one each for the two other sites.

I enjoy scheduling up posts, as it makes me feel like my ducks are in a row, one of my most oft used phrases these past few weeks, basically it gets right pat down exactly how I feel when I actually get to accomplish things. Jill and I have even started naming our ducks (much like the way we name our cameras and cellphones and other things). For example, paying bills are ‘Bill Ducks’, and trips to the bank are ‘Bank Ducks’. Yes I know. It boggles the mind how creative we can be.

Yna

I hadn’t had a vacation until, let’s see it was the end of the UAAP season then, so was it Aug 2007? Anyway it was at Boracay, but for some odd reason it wasn’t as fulfilling a holiday as I’d thought it’d be. I remember going there in 1995 and back then Boracay was TRULY beautiful. I was with my friends Geo and Maite and her very large family and it was fun like crazy happy fun. I remember Geo didn’t even know how to eat with his hands or flush the toilet with a bucket of water, rich kid that he was, and was the constant butt of jokes because of. But I especially remember my best friend Yna and the laughs we used to have. She was the very first person to tell me that I should write, and in high school I would type these long notes for her after school and she’d read them and tell me what she thought. She was a strict critic and one of the first people I knew whom I’d trade thoughts of on books and movies, and we talked for hours over these things.

Of Plans, Schedules and Disarray

I need to prepare a proposal, print it and get myself ready for a meeting 3 hours from now so what better time to blog right?!

Just wanted to say things have been so super hectic that I missed an important appointment yesterday, completely forgetting about the fact that we rescheded our meeting for Monday when all along I thought it was still for Tuesday. I turned off my cell in the AM yesterday so it wouldn’t bother me during something important we were doing, and when I turned it on I got a message saying they ‘were at le coeur’, apparently waiting. I think I turned white.

I want a new PC

So according to the PCX’s handy downloadable pricelist, I can buy these:

Athlon 64 X2 4400 Dual core Box (P3,120)
Transcend 2GB 667 (1,560)

and the

ECS 6100SM-M/M2 nForce/V-pcie/S/L (P1,980), which as far as I can make out is otherwise known on the ECS website as GeForce6100PM-M2 (V2.0), although I wouldn’t be surprised if I were wrong.

and finally

PC ATI X1650 Pro 512ddr2 dvi 128bit (P2130)

The Best BallEx Post We’ve Ever Written

.. has got to be this one. John Dacanay wrote it while I provided the images (which has haaaarrrrd). John’s incredible basketball knowledge continues to astound me. He really is a walking basketball encyclopedia and I’m proud to help him in every way with his goal to eventually release a book.

Some interesting factoids (which I probably should publish on BallEx instead but am writing here anyway why not), is Billy Ray Bate’s terrible fall to disgrace, after having been feted like the 2nd coming here, going back to the US, falling into drink and cocaine which eventually culminated in trying to holdup a Texaco station, where he got $5.00 and 7 years in prison. All after what would’ve been promising careers playing as a Laker, a Trailblazer, a Rocket, a Bullet and a Crispa Redmanizer amongst many teams, even saying that while he was here, he was ‘like Michael Jordan. I could have anything I wanted. All I had to do was snap my fingers. I had my own condo, my own car and my own bodyguard with an Uzi. I had to fight off the women.‘.

Gold’s. Yeah the Gym. And Me. Wow, right?

Gold’s 2x a week – By some amazing stroke of luck I was able to score an annual membership GC for Gold’s Gym which I am promptly using 2x a week. Gold’s is amazing, especially when coming from this:

Don’t knock it though. From that lowly garage I turned out pretty ok. It’s just the space is tight and of course, everything stops when the car is there.
